Narrative

Typography as Image

Creative writing has always been a favored outlet for verbal expression for me. This project was an enjoyable experience throughout. From writing an original narrative to visually portraying it through type and color was an interesting challenge. I choose to write on a subject that greatly interests me: time paradoxes. I used the layout of the type to illustrate my idea of what traveling through time might look like, the creation of echoes in time through a continuous loop.

Final Layout

I arranged the type from the story below how I pictured the journey through time would be like. Being literally pulled apart, pulled through some kind of wormhole; where every thought and every moment would all exist concurrently, until finally being put back together. The final design was meant to be a circle, where the ending line led right back to the opening statement.

Original Story

"I know what I have to do. You don't understand, this is our only chance. It's now or never. I won't let it happen again. I can fix it this time. Do you want to continue living here in the dark; where our only concept of time is the thunderous crash from the never ending lightning storm overhead? Wouldn't you like to see the sun rise once more? I used to think the future held a limitless opportunity for change. That tomorrow would be a whole new day to experience. I realized how precious that time was. It's all gone now. We're all that's left. No one will ever know of this time. No one will ever know of my actions. We can't live another day like this. I know where we went wrong. I don't care how many times I've tried. This is the one. I can feel it."

Concept Drawings

The concept drawings show my initial feeling for the entire piece, using the type to tell the story of time travel.
