Web Design & UI/UX

I joined ZOWWI in late 2011 in its pre-funded stage. As one of the first members of the company I was put in charge of the Graphic and Web design. From creating a logo that was applied to marketing materials, including business cards, to the user interface elements for the web site and future mobile applications. I created icons and fine-tuned every element on the site. I approached the design so the user experience was logical.

Main Interface & Corporate Pages

ZOWWI is a search engine that focuses on people. So the design for the main search results page evolved from showing article based results, like you would see on Google, to user based results. The idea was to have your entire screen filled with icons of the users that have the most interesting and useful information on your search query. The design was responsive, as your browser width changed the columns adjusted. The overall theme is clean, modern, and logic based; everything has its place and is user friendly.

The corporate pages are meant to sell the idea and brand using large images and bold type. They use a floating navigation area in order to promote the ability to sign up from any page. The sign up pages themselves were designed to be simple and straightforward to eliminate any confusion.

Concepts

The concepts began with the focus being evenly distributed among all the information available. They slowly evolved towards simplifying what was shown to the user by hiding advanced controls and having the user results and the search results share the main focus. Once we started segmenting the results into 'buckets' the multiple responsive columns were chosen as the path forward. We played with their size in relation to other elements on the screen until arriving at the final layouts, shown above.
